Healthy and comfortable chair

A well constructed and angled chair reduces backbone load, improves blood flow in the legs and provides freedom of movement. According to expert opinions, there is no universal, perfect chair for everyone, and for each workstation. An ideal, ergonomic armchair is an armchair fitted to particular person and work carried out by them. What should characterize it? First of all, the possibility of adjustment of sizes and angles of inclination. Elements of an ergonomic chair: • headrest • back-rest • armrest • seat • chair kolumn • base • castors Headrest Persons sitting for more than 6 hours on an armchair, should use seats with a headrest. Headrests provide head support and relieves cervical part of the backbone. It should be shaped well, with depression in the central part, providing comfortable head-rest. It should also be height-adjustable . Back-rest Back-rest is an important element of an ergonomic chair. It should be shaped, in a way, which reflects natural curvature of the backbone. The chair should be equipped with a function of back-rest inclination angle adjustment. The backrest should range to the height of shoulder blades. The fragment of support at the level lumbar part of the backbone is essential, because that part of the back should be strongly and firmly supported. Armrests Armrests serve to support forearms, and due to relieving the shoulders, they reduce the load put on the backbone. They are particularly useful at work for persons typing on the keyboard or using a mouse and a tablet. They allow persons working with the computer to keep an ergonomic position – alignment of the wrists and the forearms in a straight line. The armrests should be at least 5 cm wide, and they cannot limit the movement. Seat The most essential function every chair should be height adjustable position of seat. Thanks to this function, you can adjust the chair to your height, body shape and take a right, healthy and comfortable sitting position. A seat of a chair should be wide enough, to guarantee enough space for hips, and at the some time allow comfortable use of the armrests. The right depth of a seat plays a significant role for comfort of work and health. Too deep seat makes it difficult to bend your legs, while too shallow seat causes the feeling falling off their chair. Between the edge of the chair and knees bend there should be kept the distance of 2-4 cm at least. The front edge of the seat should be rounded and slightly bent down. Actually, a right profile of that edge prevents pressure on blood vessels, located in the knees bend area, improving circulation and eliminating the feeling of legs numb. The seat should be springy and soft, adjusted to weight of a person sitting on the chair. Hard seat causes discomfort, a soft one insufficiently amortizes body weight. Castors Castors should allow to move smoothly with a chair. The type of castors should be adjusted to the type of floor – they should be hard for carpets whereas castors with soft surface are proper for parquets and ceramic tiles. Self-locking castors are recommended due to security reasons. If loaded, they move freely, allowing easy movement of the chair. If the load reduces, castors are locked automatically –the chair does not “run away” when a person stands up.
